What Is Remotasks All About?

Remotasks is a micro-task site where you can earn money by doing micro tasks like transcribing audio files, image tagging, moderating contents, drawing boxes around cars, identifying spams, categorizing t-shirts and so on.

Remotasks is founded by Scale.ie based in San Francisco which helps to accelerate AI applications by providing access to human-powered data

They pay $1 – $2 per hour, subject to the accuracy of your tasks.  If your work is accurate without any mistake, you will earn $1, but if your work is not accurate and with some mistakes, expect lower-earning per task.  Accuracy and fluency in English are what you must try to excel if you want to earn more with Remotasks.

How Remotasks Really Works?

As I mentioned above Remotasks provides micro tasks and you need to register with your Facebook account.

It will ask your phone number while registration, as it sends verification SMS to your cell phone, once you verify your account, next you need to take training on the Remotasks University and this may include subjects like:

• 3D Cuboid Annotation
• Semantic Segmentation
• Polygon Annotation
• Box Annotation
• Video Box Annotation
• Categorization

You can take one or more training but it is important to remember that you have to clear a test which will check your knowledge on the given topic.

Remotasks give you 3 chances to clear an exam, so do not worry if you could not clear an exam on the first attempt.

Once you clear the exam, you will be given micro tasks relating to that subject.  Now if you complete your tasks with accuracy and without any or minimal mistakes, you will be paid accordingly.

Once you reach the $10 mark you will get an added bonus of $10.

Different tasks at Remotasks:

Remotasks payout only through Paypal and once in a week.  There are many high paying jobs available at Remotasks, but the quality and accuracy are important to unlock these high paying jobs.  Needless to say, it takes more time and accuracy, efficiency.

For example, Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) annotation tasks require more focus and time to complete it. You will get paid higher for this task.

Refer A Friend:

Like every platform Remotasks also have a referral program, where they pay $5 when you share your referral link and if your friend joins through your link, both of you get $5 each.

Though you will find contradictory and confusing information about the Remotasks referral program, some say it gives $5 per referral while others say it offers $10 per referral.

It is also noteworthy, Remotasks is a free platform and even if anyone joins through your link and opens a free account, you both will get paid $5.

Now the minimum threshold to payout your earnings is $5 at Remotasks, so can one join Remotasks as a referral, earn $5 and withdraw it?

For me, it’s really doubtful, a platform who only gives $1 per hour for your tasks, and that too, if that’s accurate and without any errors, how is it offering $5 or $10 just for signing in with Remotasks?

Also, your referral need to reach the $10 threshold within two weeks, otherwise both of you will not get paid!

I’ve spent some time digging through all the layers to get into the heart of the system and discover if it’s just another scam or there is a possibility that this system works, but I found many flaws with Remotasks.

Very Hard to Earn  with Remotask

As I mentioned above Remotask offers only $1 – $2 per hour, and that too, if your task is accurate and without any mistake.  Now it is obvious, that if you do a simple mistake, they will cut your earning for that task.

If you check the Facebook page of Remotask, you will find a mix reaction from its “taskers”, some complaining getting only 0.06 for completing more than 4 tasks.

Others have a problem with signing in

When I try to sign in, it asked me for verification code, but I have not received any verification code yet:)

Apart from it, you get paid very poorly, it’s better to invest your time and energy on some other platforms like Points Prizes, and so on.   There are many opportunities online, which will pay you decently.

Even if you try to promote Remotasks, hoping that you will get paid $5 per referral, you can see in the above screenshot, that they will not provide you verification code, and it will be very difficult for you to earn any money from this platform.

Testimonials

Remotasks have provided many testimonials on their website, and obviously all of them are positive.  But I came across a testimonial on the website by Juan Paulo.

Juan joined Remotasks in September 2016, as he mentions in his testimonial and since it is published on official website of Remotasks, it must be authentic.

Now let’s check the whois of Remotasks:

It is very clear from the above screenshot, Remotasks registered its domain on 26 March 2017, now how is it possible for anyone to join Remotasks before 2017 and earn money from it, suspicious hmm?

There are many testimonials saying that they have earned from the Remotasks and I have no doubt about that but if you search online you will find many complaints also.

Now I think it’s really serious.

Its a complaint from a freelancer who worked for Remotaskers and if you read his complaint carefully, you will get what he meant.

He is saying that Remotaskers allows you to take free training that they provide, but do not allow you to appear for the exam, and it’s clear that unless you clear an exam, you will not get any job on Remotaskers.

It’s a huge waste of time if they are not allowing to appear for the examination.

Secondly, he is complaining that even after you complete a task you do not get paid, and that is really serious.

A person who is in need of work goes through all the process, take time to learn the course, attempt examination, do his task diligently and after that, if he is not get paid, it’s really ridiculous.

Is Remotasks A Scam?

Remotasks is not a Scam as many had received payments from Remotasks, but I would definitely not recommend Remotasks to anyone.

I found it very dubious on part of Remotasks, to give $5 – $10?? as a referral commission, just for a free sign in, when Remotasks give its taskers less than $1 per hour.

I do not know whether anyone has really received this referral commission so far.  Comment below if you have received a referral commission of $5 or $10 from Remotasks.

Personal Data Collected

Personal Information Remotasks collected is vast and I think unnecessary just for doing microtasks.  Remotasks collect all your personal information like name, email, phone number and not forget your financial details.  If you read the privacy policy of Remotasks you will get the following information:

It may sell your data?

You must not forget that to register with Remotasks you have to register with your Facebook credentials, I find it somewhat suspicious.

Recently I reviewed PointsPrizes, a very legit GPT site, have many ways to earn money, but only ask you your email address, not even your password, because it says password can be easily hacked and there are millions of example of hacking passwords.
