Repurpose Content For Social Media

Sharing is caring!

Today social media is huge and one cannot afford to ignore it.  One of the main reasons social media platforms are important because people tend to hang on them and you can catch their attention by providing important information.  But it can be daunting and time-consuming if you want to create new content for each social media.  In this article, I will show you how you can repurpose your old content for social media.  You already have content, and that content can be in any form, a blog, a video, audio, now you can turn it into another form of content.

What is Repurposing of Content?

Repurposing content simply means choosing the right content and transform it into another format.  Say you have a popular blog, you can turn it into a video or a podcast, or even a social media post or use the content for email marketing and so on.

In fact, WA is running a series of 4 part WAbinars on the Repurposing Content.  Jay, as you all know is going to teach us how to do it.  It includes topics like:

1.Repurposing Content for Social Media

2. Repurposing Content for Email Marketing

3. Repurposing Content for YouTube

4. Repurposing Content for Pinterest

so you can see that it’s going to be a very informative series that will help you to create more content without much effort.

Now let’s see what other bloggers are saying about repurposing content:

Repurposing content (also known as “content recycling”) is the practice of reusing all or elements of existing content in order to expand that content’s reach. Repurposed content is typically transformed into a new format (for example, turning a blog post into an infographic)- Backlinko

2. How To Choose the Right Content for Repurposing

Now, this is a very important step that you must take into account before jumping into it.

  1.  Go through different posts that you have on your site.
  2. Categorize them into different categories like a product review, best of posts, informative posts, resource page, money pages, or top recommendations, etc.
  3. Make a list and assign some posts into the above categories that you want to repurpose.
  4. Take into account different social media platforms and decide which post is good for a particular social media platform.  For example, Instagram is not really effective for driving traffic to your site as you can not post a clickable link, but it’s great for quotes.
  5. Take action on the above steps and post some content by using this method.

This is the simplest way you can choose the content which you can repurpose for different social media platforms.

3. How To Prioritize the Content for Repurposing?

Use content that Converts.

Now that you have a few posts that you want to repurpose for social media, it is always better to prioritize the content that you want to repurpose.

Very obviously, you will repurpose the content that is popular and getting a lot of traction on your site.

so now have a look at your blog posts or content that you have already published and decide which one is most popular or getting a lot of content or share.

Another great way is to look at your Google Analytics.

So you can actually just go to Google Analytics. Jump on over into analytics, and then you can take a look at behavior, all pages, and then you can see, and take a look at what page seems to be the most popular.

Use this information for repurposing the content.

4. How to Post Awesome Content on Different Social Media?

The next step is to create awesome content using repurposing your old content.  The first thing you should keep in mind is that while repurposing, you should choose the content that’s already been published.  There is no use choosing a fresh piece of content.

The main purpose of repurposing content is to save time creating new content and using the old content for social media.

So for example, you can take a roundup post or product review like Best 5 Themes for WordPress.

Now you already have this piece of content on your site, you can create 5 different pins for the blog post and pinned it, with different titles.  schedule each pin per day and you will have fresh content for Pinterest for the next 5 days.

Now if you have Canva Pro, you can easily resize one post for another social media.  The best way is to create a square post first, like the Instagram post, and then resize it for Pinterest or FB post, that way you will retain the base post image ratio and easily add other elements in Pinterest or FB post.

You can create social media posts for Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Tiktok, or YouTube just from one post.  This can help you to get more readers and viewers on different social media platforms as well if you continue to apply this strategy.

Now just imagine, if you can create 5 pins from one post, you can also create 5 posts for FB, 5 videos for YouTube, Numerous Tweets, and so on.

You can write descriptions once and use the same description for all the social media posts and the best part is you can recycle these posts after a month or so.

The thing with social media is that you can take a social media post posted today, and in a month or so from now, you could do it again because everyone will forget that you did that before. It’s not like people are taking track or keeping track of what you’ve posted.

Conclusion:

Repurposing old content for social media is a great way to provide value and at the same time save a ton of your time.

Since you already have content that is published and getting good reviews, shares, and engagement, it’s easy to choose the content for repurposing.

You need to decide which content is best for which platform, as each platform has a different follower base on the content your post. For Example, Pinterest is more visual, whereas podcast is an audio platform.  The blog is more for reading but YouTube is for watching.

Based on these facts, you can decide which of your content is suitable for which platform.  And it’s a good way to get traffic.
